If you are one of those who think exercise is a waste of time and of no benefit at all to the body, you might have to have a rethink.
Regular physical activity can help protect from some health problems. For instance, exercise controls weight. For the obese(肥胖的),exercise is very important as it helps reduce body fat by building or preserving muscle mass and improving the body's ability to use calories. When you engage in physical activity, you burn calories. The more intense the activity is, the more calories you burn. When exercise is combined with proper nutrition, it can help control weight and prevent obesity, a major risk factor for many diseases. Besides workouts at the gym, your body can benefit from other forms of exercise such as jogging, fast walking, running, playing games.
Regular physical activity can improve your mood and the way you feel about yourself. Need an emotional lift or need to blow off some steam after a stressful day?A workout at the gym or a quick 30-minute walk can help. Exercise stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. You may also feel better about your appearance and yourself when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem. Exercise gives you a chance to enjoy the outdoors or simply engage in activities that make you happy.
Regular physical activity is a great way to feel better, gain health benefits and have fun. As a general goal, aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. If you want to lose weight or meet specific fitness goals, you may need to exercise more. Remember to check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program, especially if you haven't exercised for a long time, have chronic health problems,or you have any concerns.

How does exercise help the overweight people? ______

    A. It reduces their appetite.
    B. It works muscles and burns calories.
    C. It contributes to absorbing proper nutrition.
    D. It contains a wide range of forms functioning differently.

What can be inferred from paragraph 3? ______

    A. Exercise is likely to reduce depression.
    B. Outdoor activities benefit people's appearance.
    C. A 30-minute walk every day can help lose weight.
    D. Exercise can create some relaxing brain chemicals.

What's the author's suggestion for someone trying a new exercise project? ______

    A. Getting the doctor's opinions.
    B. Setting some fitness goals.
    C. Clearing up the concerns.
    D. Having a medical checkup.

Which of the following opinions will the author favour? ______

    A. Exercise can consume too much time.
    B. Nutrition and exercise are equally important.
    C. You can benefit more from outdoor activities.

A completely new type of cooling panel has been created by researchers at Stanford University. The new structure works to reflect significant amounts of sunlight back into space even in full sunlight.
To explain the breakthrough in specific terms:"a typical one-story,single-family house with just 10 percent of its roof covered by radioactive cooling panels could make up for 35 percent its entire air conditioning needs during the hottest hours of the summer."
As the press release from Stanford University's Engineering site states it, "Tapping the cold sky of outer space to cool the planet. Science fiction, you say? Well, maybe not any more."
"People usually see space as a source of heat from the sun,but away from the sun outer space is really a cold, cold place," says Shanhui Fan, professor of electrical engineering and the paper's senior author. "We've developed a new type of structure that reflects the vast majority of sunlight, while at the same time it sends heat into that coldness, which cools human-made structures even in the day time."
The engineering "trick" that makes this possible is the crossing of an important thresh-hold. The reflector needs to be effective enough that it absorbs only a very low minimum of sunlight, and avoids heating up at all as a result. The other important factor is that the structure needs to be very efficient at reflecting heat back into outer space. "Thus, the structure must send out heat radiation very efficiently within a specific wavelength range in which the atmosphere is nearly transparent(透明的). Outside this range,Earth's atmosphere simply reflects the light back down." You're probably already familiar with this effect,it's commonly known as the greenhouse effect.
The new cooling panel, made from nano-structured quartz and silicon carbide(碳化硅),fulfills both of these requirements. It's very effective at reflecting most sunlight, while also very effectively sending heat radiation in the wavelength range necessary to escape the Earth's atmosphere.

What can the new solar structure be used to do? ______

    A. To turn light energy into electric energy
    B. To reflect amounts of sunlight back
    C. To provide information for researchers
    D. To extend the hours of sunlight in winter

According to Shanhui Fan we can know that ______ .

    A. the earth will be cooled by outer space
    B. human beings are fighting against nature
    C. no one is capable of living in outer space
    D. such structures will be sent to space

What is the function of the reflector? ______

    A. To support and fix a thresh-hold.
    B. To take in sunlight effectively.
    C. To play a trick in the process.
    D. To keep the wavelength in order.

What can we conclude from the passage? ______

    A. The solar structure can lower our bills.
    B. A majority of sunlight can be refused.
    C. The Earth's atmosphere will disappear.
    D. Humans can rule out greenhouse effect.
