I looked at the broken mirror on the floor. It was silly to play soccer inside when mom was away. My team would have a match this Saturday. I just wanted to practice. However, I was in a big trouble.
When I was cleaning up the mirror, Rusty, my pet dog, jumped around me. It gave me an idea.
Mom came back and Rusty jumped up to greet her. “I’m sorry, mom, but Rusty broke your mirror.” I lied(撒谎), looking at my feet. “Rusty, you bad boy!” mom was angry. Rusty whined(呜呜声). A sick feeling rose in my mind, “You go outside to the yard.” said mom. “Go to your doghouse, Rusty.” I said, holding the door open. Rusty walked to his doghouse, looking sad.
I closed the door and tried to think about something else. It began to rain hard. Rain fell down Rusty’s nose, just like he was crying. “What have I done?” I asked myself.
“Mom, I have something to tell you.” I said. “I was playing soccer in the house, and I broke your mirror.” I quietly explained. “Blaming Rusty for your mistake was wrong,” mom said, “but John, thank you for being honest. Now let Rusty back inside, and you can’t go to the soccer match on Saturday.” I thought about arguing, saying it’s unfair, but it is. I made a mistake.
I opened the door, and Rusty ran back in. He shook the rain off his body right onto me. He jumped up and I hugged him. Suddenly, I felt fine.
